Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

30 March 2008 - 12:45Spring

I think we are firmly entrenched in Spring in Louisiana.  Our plum trees bloomed a couple of weeks ago.

They are still baby trees, but we are hoping to get a couple of plums out of them this year.

We are also firmly entrenched in crawfish season.

I finally decided to knit another Forest Canopy Shawl using Pigeonroof Studios‘ sock yarn in the Green Ocean colorway.  I’ve already picked out my next project too: Cabled Rangoli Hat.  Now I just have to order the needles I need and the yarn.

28 March 2008 - 17:37Forest Canopy

Wow…will you look at this, I completed a project and managed to take pictures of it and post about it! It must be some sort of miracle. Actually, its really just that I was home sick the day I completed it so it was easy to take pictures while it was still light out.

Forest Canopy Shawl
Yarn: Cherry Tree Hill Supersock Merino
Colorway: Indian Summer
Needle Size: US 8

I absolutely love this pattern!  It only took me a week to finish, which must be some sort of record for me.  And to top it off, I’m seriously considering starting on another one.

Actually, I’m having a bit of anxiety about what I should start next.  I want to knit another forest canopy, but I’m concerned I will get bored halfway through.  I kind of feel stupid knitting another of something when I have sooooo many projects I would like to try.  But, I already have the yarn picked out (stash busting!), and its sitting there taunting me, begging to be wound and started on.  I guess it’s not stupid to knit another of something if I enjoyed it.

23 March 2008 - 12:40go go gadget ipod

I’m seriously considering getting an Ipod Nano. On our recent trip to Dallas (oh yeah…we were in Dallas for St. Patties Day) we stopped by the Mac store. Mike and I are PC users, but we couldn’t resist getting a chance to touch this. That MacBook Air is crazy, it doesn’t even feel real and I have no idea how they get all the parts in it. Seriously, no matter what your preference is, pc or mac, you should stop by a store to see that thing. That said, I would never buy one because I’m clumsy, and I have a large easily excitable dog. It would never survive around my house, things must be strong and sturdy around here. Anyway (getting back to the point), the Ipod Nanos caught my eye the second I walked in the store. While at the store, I decided it was stupid to want one, after all I have a perfectly good Ipod Mini that has not been touched in about 2 years and is currently residing under a mountain of papers on my desk. But, I’m very attracted to the idea of listening to audio books or music while I knit or spin. And the Ipod Nano is so tiny, it can actually fit in my pocket. All the guys are thinking: “you can’t fit a mini in your pocket?!” Seriously….no….they make pockets tiny on women’s jeans. They are half the size of men’s pockets. Mike didn’t believe me so I made him stick his hand in my pocket….he was amazed. I know most people would suggest I get an Iphone because it’s an Ipod and a phone, but I’m still not sold on the whole Iphone thing. Plus, I’m fond of my Blackberry Pearl. Now I just have to decide if I want it bad enough to spend money on it instead of yarn and fiber…..

22 March 2008 - 17:45I’m still here…I promise

I’m sure pretty much everyone has decided that I was kidnapped by gypsies and forced to live in an internetless world, but I’m still here.  I’ve been really busy knitting and spinning, and I’ve been a little bit lazy about my blogging lately.

Speaking of spinning, I think I’ve finally got the hang of it.  I’ve been using my Bosworth Mini and Featherweight, and I’m absolutely in love.   I’ve finished up my very first yarn, and I’ve started working on a few others.  I also finally finished my second Pave sock.  I got a little distracted by my spindles, so it took me a while.

I’m hoping to take pictures of everything tomorrow.  I would have done it today, but I was being responsible (paying bills, etc.)

Happy Easter everyone!

7 March 2008 - 9:08Snow

It’s snowing hard….in Louisiana….in March.  None of it will stick though because it won’t stay cold long enough for the ground to cool off.  This is crazy, but beautiful.  I love snow.  If my family and job wasn’t in Louisiana, I would move to Montana or somewhere and buy some land.  I would grow herbs and veggies and have sheep, maybe even a goat or a lama or something.  Of course, I’m not a morning person, so farming probably isn’t the life for me.
